Click your name in the leftmost navigation bar, and choose Notification Settings. If your preference is Never, you will not receive any email alerts.
 

Additionally, Project Admins can disable the Email Alert functionality at the project level. 

 

Documents may appear in the New shortcut section that don't give new document alerts. They are previously uploaded, but very likely have been redacted and don't give you a new document notification.
