Project lock, project freeze, and project hibernation are concepts that sound similar, yet each term is unique based on the circumstances surrounding a pause in project activity.

 

Lock

Project locking is generally undertaken for various reasons when it is beneficial to prevent project content from being changed for a period of time. Locking a project restricts content updates or changes in the Documents tab, but other site functionality remains available. Locking can be done by project admins or Datasite Assist® Experts from within the Settings tab of the project. Please review the Locked Project article.
 

Freeze

Freezing a project renders the entire project read-only. It prohibits not only changes to content, but also interaction with permissions and Q&A. The users tab remains accessible to project admin, but new users cannot be invited. Project freeze can be initiated by either project admins or Datasite Assist® Experts, but can only be unfrozen by us. Please review the Freezing Your Project article.

 

Hibernate

Project hibernation is a project status whereby the project is billed at a reduced rate in exchange for reduced functionality.

Projects must be in a 'Continuation of Services' period where the original contract term has expired in order to qualify for hibernation. Hibernated projects may be administrated by up to two admins. Reviewers are not allowed to access hibernated projects.
