How can I improve searchability for non-English files?

Datasite offers multi-language optical character recognition (OCR) for improved searchability. You may wish to utilize this functionality if part or all of the content in your project is non-English.

The default OCR (search) language for a project is English. However, site admins have the ability to:

• Reprocess individual documents in another language; OR
• Choose a different document processing language at the project level

Available languages include:

• English
• German
• Spanish
• French
• Italian
• Brazilian Portuguese
• Japanese
• Korean
• Polish
• Russian
• Swedish
• Turkish
• Chinese (Simplified)
• Chinese (Traditional)
• Danish
• Dutch
• Greek

Note that language auto-detection is in place. If a file contains a single language comprising 70% or more of file content, the file will be processed in that language, regardless of manual settings. However, if content is less than 70% one language and you wish to change the processing language, follow the instructions below.

To Reprocess an Individual File in Another Language:

  1   In the Documents tab, click the checkbox(es) associated with the file(s) you'd like to reprocess. 

  2   Select More Actions > Change Search Language.

  3   Select the preferred language.

  4   Click Update And Reprocess.


Selected items have now begun reprocessing with OCR being performed in the chosen language. 

To Change Document Language Settings at the Project Level:

  1   Access Settings > Document Language card.  

  2   Click the arrow next to the current document language field to display options.

  3   Choose the desired language.


This setting affects the processing of documents uploaded after the setting is changed. It does not retroactively reprocess files uploaded prior to changing the language settings.
